Confidentiality Statement

Protecting your financial information is central to how we practice. Here is how we safeguard what you share with us.

Our Commitment to Confidentiality

At MSM Advisors, LLC, the trust our clients place in us is the foundation of every engagement. Business owners share sensitive financial details — revenue, payroll, tax positions, banking information, and personal financial data — and they rightly expect that information to be handled with the utmost care. We are committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and security of the information entrusted to us at every stage of our relationship.

Professional Standards

As a CPA firm, we are bound by rigorous professional standards governing the handling of client information. We adhere to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, including the Confidential Client Information Rule, which prohibits us from disclosing confidential client information without the client’s consent, except as permitted or required by law or professional standards. Confidentiality is not simply a policy for us — it is a professional and ethical obligation we take seriously.

Access to client information within our firm is limited to team members who need it to perform the services you have engaged us for. We train our staff on the importance of confidentiality and the proper handling of sensitive data.

Secure Document Exchange

How information travels matters as much as how it is stored. For that reason, we exchange sensitive documents through a secure, encrypted client portal (ShareFile) rather than by regular email or postal mail. Email and physical mail are convenient, but they are not designed to protect the kind of financial and personal data our work involves.

When you send us tax documents, financial statements, or other sensitive records, please upload them through our secure portal. New to the portal? Our step-by-step ShareFile resources walk you through logging in and uploading files safely. You can find all of our secure tools in the Client Resource Hub.

  • Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Access is controlled through individual logins, so files are shared only with the intended recipients.
  • We ask that you avoid emailing Social Security numbers, account numbers, or full financial records — use the portal instead.

Tax Information and Legal Confidentiality

Beyond our professional standards, federal and state law impose strict limits on how tax return information may be used and disclosed. Under Internal Revenue Code Section 7216 and related regulations, we do not use or disclose your tax return information for any purpose other than preparing your returns and providing the services you have engaged us for, unless you provide written consent or the law requires disclosure. We apply the same care to information governed by state tax authorities.

When Information May Be Disclosed

We disclose client information only in limited circumstances: with your authorization, when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or as otherwise permitted under applicable professional standards. In all cases, we disclose no more than is necessary and take steps to protect your information.

What We Ask of You

Confidentiality is a shared responsibility. You can help protect your own information by using our secure portal for sensitive documents, keeping your portal login credentials private, and letting us know promptly if you believe your account or information may have been compromised.
